Roving coyotes scream and howl,
Terrorizing shrieks bounce
Above the trees and across the fields,
Shudders slither up my neck,
I imagine unwary prey ambushed
In the crisp star-studded navy night.
Soulless slayer brays and boasts,
Across networks and through the nation,
Blatant lies boldly broadcast
Treachery thwarts my rhythm,
I grieve for 200,000 innocent souls
Needlessly dead on the autumn equinox.
“And ain’t I a woman too?” remains my mantra in these troubling times.
